Blog 12 (11)

I do not think being a democratic citizen today means the same thing that it did 30 or so years ago.  I think that today, we are bombarded so often with people telling us to vote that it seems more like a job than a right!  Our generation never had to worry about having the right to vote, it has always been available to us so I think that has a lot to do with that.  I think that today many people have the idea that they don’t need to be involved because the next person will be involved and that will make up for their lack of involvement.  When our grandparents were our age, voting was a fairly new ideal especially for the women so I don’t know if they fully got the whole importance of voting.   I think now, we understand how important the democratic process is, but we are exposed to so much of it that we tend to think of it as a hassle than something we actually should do!
