BLOG 1: Big Brothers Big Sisters Community

One community that I am a member of is Big Brothers Big Sisters. It is a non-profit organization focused on providing mentors and friends for the youth in our community. Since adolescence is a difficult period of change and progression for many adolescents, this organization helps to furnish a warm, welcoming environment that will encourage growth and self-confidence.

The information I receive from Big Brothers Big Sisters stems from the match specialist working within the organization. This employee is responsible for facilitating discussion and events for “Bigs” and “Littles” to bond and get to know each other better. The employee sends out a weekly email with events, ideas, questions, and updates so that members of the organization can stay connected and in-the-know about what is going on. I believe this is an effective way of distributing information and receiving feedback for the organization and has definitely helped me to feel apart of the non-profit in a positive way.

You can check out Big Brothers Big Sisters here, and if you want to check out the local branch of BBBS, stroll on over to this site.

    Good first post.

Do the discussions and/or events for “Bigs” and “Littles” provide you with information about this community and/or strengthen your bond with the community? Are there any other events or meetings that connect you with BBBS?
