Blog #1: VMA Tweet Data

  1. This article talks about the 2015 MTV VMAs being the most tweeted about event since Nielsen Ratings began tracking tweets in 2011. I chose to share this tweet because it relates old media to new media and shows how much of an impact young audiences can have on ratings when looking at social media.
  2. The research used in this twitter article were tracked real time during the VMAs by Nielsen Social.
  3. A question I have about this article is, why does this make a difference, and how can looking at social media affect how ratings for TV shows are produced?

    How did Nielsen Social collect these data?

      Nielsen collects the data through tracking online activity from a panel of more than 500,000 people using a computer during a specific event. They track the tags people use in their posts on their devices. (www.nielsen.com/us/en/solutions/measurement/online.html)
