Blog #7 – Processed Meat and Cancer

  1. This study, published by the World Health Organization, shows that excessive amounts of processed and red meats lead to an increased risk of cancer.
  2. The study was done by 22 scientists from 10 countries, who met to analyze the properties of processed and grilled meats, as well as red meats. They also looked back at different studies done on general populations around the world to link the relationship of certain meats and cancer.
  3. Does this mean humans should stop eating meat completely? Is there an amount that we can eat and not have a higher risk for cancer? How does this affect the respect given to certain animal rights organizations, such as PETA?
